Sports Performance at THE ARMORY
The Journey to Becoming an Elite Athlete
Every elite athlete is built on more than raw talent. It takes years of disciplined, purposeful development. From 4th graders learning the game to Olympians preparing for world competition, the path is the same:
-
Strength & Conditioning creates the physical foundation.
-
Technical Skill sharpens sport-specific execution.
-
Tactical Knowledge teaches awareness, positioning, and game intelligence.
-
Psychological Edge provides focus, confidence, and resilience under pressure.
Success isn’t luck or something you are born with. It’s the systematic integration of these four pillars under the guidance of a team of expert coaches and providers using every resource available to help advance athletic performance and achievement.
ARMORY Strength & Conditioning
The Foundation
ARMORY Strength and Conditioning is an elite, Columbus-based program that improves injury resilience, maximizes genetic potential, and develops character in athletes at every level. Each athlete receives a personalized plan informed by assessment, injury history, and competitive calendar. We train strength, power, speed, change of direction, mobility, and corrective work. Sports-science technology identifies gaps, tracks progress, and drives results.
Why strength first: strength fuels speed, stability, power, and injury resistance. At THE ARMORY, strength and conditioning is not just weightlifting. It is movement quality, body control, and physical resilience that translate to every sport.
-
More force in every stride, jump, or swing.
-
Stronger joints and connective tissue for injury resistance.
-
The ability to sustain peak performance under fatigue.
-
Mental toughness through disciplined training.
Raise the floor with strength and you raise the ceiling in every sport.

ARMORY Skill Development
Technical & Tactical
Two pillars drive performance:
-
Technical skills: footwork, body position, hand placement, ball contact, timing.
-
Tactical knowledge: reading the game, decision making under pressure, communication, choosing the right action.
Athletes first master clean mechanics at full speed, then apply those skills in realistic situations so gains transfer to competition.
Common to Every Sport at THE ARMORY
-
Assessment first: brief movement and skill review, goals, and competitive calendar.
-
Individual plan: tailored to age, experience, position, and season timing.
-
Motor learning: high-quality reps, clear cues, simple progressions.
-
Game IQ: constraint drills, situational problem-solving, communication habits.
-
Video and feedback: film review to teach and track progress.
-
Strength and speed integration: aligned with our performance staff.
-
In-season and off-season planning: load management to protect performance.
-
Confidence and composure: routines that hold up on game day.
ARMORY Sports Science
Measure, Optimize, Repeat
At THE ARMORY, we use the same cutting-edge technology trusted by Power 4 Division I programs, the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, and the U.S. Olympic Team. Our integrated team—strength and conditioning coaches, skills coaches, physicians, physical therapists, and registered dietitians—turns those tools into personalized training, nutrition, and recovery programs. The goal is simple: prevent injuries, maximize performance, and help every athlete reach their full potential.
You can’t fix what you don’t measure. Athletic development is data-driven. By capturing objective numbers on strength, speed, body composition, and movement quality, we eliminate blind spots and make training precise. Every test has a purpose, and the data directly informs how we train, fuel, and recover.
What this does for athletes
-
Reveals strengths and weaknesses with objective metrics, including asymmetries.
-
Targets the right qualities at the right time based on the season and your competitive calendar.
-
Tracks progress transparently so changes are clear and actionable.
-
Reduces injury risk through smarter loading and better movement quality.

How We Use Sports Science at THE ARMORY
-
Assess: short baseline using force plates, timing, strength positions, and range of motion.
-
Interpret: your coach reviews the numbers, compares to sport demands, and sets priorities.
-
Program: a personalized plan for strength, speed, conditioning, and corrective work. Nutrition and recovery recommendations included when relevant.
-
Apply: training blocks match your schedule. In season focuses on performance and resilience. Off season builds capacity and skill.
-
Re-test: regular check-ins confirm progress and update the plan.
Who benefits
-
Developing athletes who need a clear plan and objective feedback.
-
Varsity and collegiate athletes who want smarter in-season management.
-
Return-to-play athletes who need milestones and guardrails.
-
Teams and coaches who want roster-wide testing and reports.
Importance of Athlete Nutrition & Body Composition
Training alone doesn’t create elite performance. How an athlete fuels and how their body is built are just as critical as the hours they put into the weight room or on the field. Nutrition and body composition are the invisible factors that amplify every rep, sprint, and drill.
-
Fuel for Performance: Proper nutrition provides the energy to train harder, recover faster, and compete at peak levels. Poor fueling leaves even the most talented athletes underpowered.
-
Body Composition Matters: Every sport—and every position—requires a different build.
-
A football lineman thrives on controlled mass and leverage.
-
A wide receiver depends on elasticity and lean speed.
-
A shot putter maximizes dense, explosive muscle.
-
A marathoner optimizes efficiency with a lighter frame.
-
-
Recovery & Adaptation: Training breaks the body down; nutrition rebuilds it stronger. Protein, carbs, fats, and micronutrients each play precise roles in repair, growth, and resilience.
-
Tools That Guide Precision:
-
DEXA Scans → Reveal fat, muscle, and bone distribution with clinical accuracy. (Measure, Optimize, Repeat)
-
RMR Testing → Shows how an athlete burns energy at rest, guiding fueling strategies.
-
Registered Dietitians (RDs) → Turn data into customized nutrition plans that align athletes’ physiology with their sport or position.

Injury Prevention & Treatment
Keeping the Body Healthy
Elite performance depends on staying healthy. Injuries don’t just sideline athletes — they interrupt development and momentum. That’s why prevention and treatment are fully integrated into every athlete’s performance plan at THE ARMORY.
Injury Prevention
We build proactive strategies to keep athletes training consistently:
-
Physical Therapy Integration — movement screenings, corrective exercise, and individualized prehab.
-
Manual Therapies — dry needling, tissue scraping, cupping, electrical stimulation (estim), and blood flow restriction therapy.
-
Massage Therapy — soft tissue care to improve mobility, circulation, and recovery.
-
Recovery Tools — hydrotherapy, red light therapy, laser treatments, and pneumatic compression are woven into prevention plans to manage fatigue, reduce inflammation, and keep tissues resilient.
Treatment & Return-to-Play
When injuries do happen, we make the return-to-play process part of the same integrated system:
-
PTs and LMTs provide hands-on treatments aligned with training cycles.
-
Recovery technologies are applied strategically to accelerate healing and reduce downtime.
-
Return-to-Play Programming is coordinated with strength & conditioning and skill work so athletes don’t just get back — they come back stronger.
The Integrated Approach
At THE ARMORY, injury prevention and treatment aren’t bolt-on services. They’re embedded into training itself, overseen by the same elite coaches and providers who design the athlete’s program. The result: athletes who train hard, stay healthy, and maximize their long-term potential.
Mental Fitness
The mental game separates good athletes from great ones. At THE ARMORY, we train the mind with the same intensity as the body. Our integrated approach develops:
-
Confidence and composure — so athletes can trust their training and perform at their best in high-pressure moments.
-
Resilience — the ability to recover quickly from mistakes, setbacks, or tough calls, and return with even greater focus.
-
Discipline — the consistency to show up, stay locked in, and sustain effort through long seasons, grueling practices, and championship runs.
-
Focus — sharpening attention and cutting out distractions to execute when it matters most.
-
Growth mindset — viewing challenges as opportunities to improve, rather than obstacles to avoid.
