This program is suited for athletes in junior high. In this program we will build on the foundational movement patterns that will make the athletes more coordinated and equipped to handle the physical demands of sports. Our certified strength coaches will work with the athletes to make them stronger both physically and mentally, but also more

Alphas
This program is suited for HS/college athletes committed to maximizing their potential. In this program, utilizing the top sports science technology available, our college and NFL experienced strength coaches will build on the elements of strength, power, neurological coordination, resiliency, and mobility in our athletes.
OUR PURPOSE is to develop strong and courageous young people by training our athletes in a safe, hard, competitive environment while educating them to develop a high physical literacy. There is a one time yearly sports science fee of $75 and for an additional $150 per month athletes can have access to our SHIELD membership including Medical Staff, Registered Dietician, Dexa body composition scan, Physical Therapist, and Exercise Physiologist as well as full access to our recovery lab including unlimited hot/cold plunge, unlimited normatecs, discounted pricing for CryoTherapy, Photobiomodulation bed.

Jay Hooten
Director of Sports Performance
Jay Hooten comes to the Armory as the Director of Sports Performance after serving 12 years as the Director of Football Performance at Northwestern University. Before being elevated to Director in the summer of 2011, he served 2 years as Assistant Director of Strength and Conditioning, working with football, baseball, men’s tennis, men’s soccer, and wrestling from 2009 to 2011.
During his tenure with the Wildcats, he was responsible for the development of 30 NFL draft picks along with 3 1st round picks. He coached numerous NFL rookie free agent signings that saw long careers in the NFL. In his 1st full offseason as Director, he helped the Wildcats to their first bowl win in 63 years. The Wildcats went to 4 straight bowl games from 2015 to 2018, winning 3 of 4. During 2017, Hooten saw the Wildcats win 3 OT games to finish with 10 wins. During the 2018 and 2020 seasons, the Wildcats won 2 West Division Championships where they faced the Buckeyes in the Big Ten Championship.
Hooten has strong Ohio ties before arriving at Northwestern, he was an intern for Ohio State Football from 2002-2003 before being elevated to part-time assistant from 2004-2006. After his stint with the Buckeyes, Hooten returned to his hometown of Dayton, Ohio, serving as the Director of strength & conditioning at Huber Heights Wayne High School from 2007-2008.
Dean Grogg
Strength & Conditioning Coach
Dean Grogg is a National Strength and Conditioning Association CSCS Certified Strength and Conditioning Professional in addition to holding a Personal Training Certification from The American Council on Exercise.
Prior to spending the 2023 Football Season with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, Dean has additional experience in the private sector working with elite professional, collegiate, and high school athletes at TEST Football Academy in Martinsville, New Jersey.
Dean holds a bachelor's degree in Communications with a minor in Sociology from the University at Albany where he played defensive-end for the Great Danes football program.
Anthony Schlegel
Executive Vice President of Fitness
Anthony Schlegel is a former collegiate and NFL linebacker for The United States Air Force Academy, The Ohio State University, New York Jets (2006 Draft, 3rd round, 76th pick), and Cincinnati Bengals. He has been coached by and worked for college football hall of fame coaches Fisher DeBerry, Jim Tressel, and Urban Meyer.
His coaching career began training high school, college and professional athletes at the world renowned Metroflex Gym in Arlington, Texas. He began his college coaching career as an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Ohio State Football in 2011. During his time at Ohio State he assisted in the development of 26 NFL draft picks and won the 2014 National Championship. In 2021 Schlegel was the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars. While in Jacksonville he helped create the Jaguars Human Performance Department and the design of their best in class training facility.
Schlegs has a BS and MBA from The Ohio State University and the Fisher College of Business, a certification in strength and conditioning through the CSCCa, and two patents that have been sold all over the world. His purpose is to maximize people through authentic service and is passionate about developing and training all people to meet their genetic potential and improve their quality of life.
